The reign of the Golden State Warriors doesn’t seem like it’s going to end anytime soon.
The back-to-back champs have agreed to re-sign two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant to a two-year, $61.5 million deal, according to Shams Charania.
The deal is structured as a “one-plus-one”, giving Durant the opportunity to opt out in the form of a player option next offseason.
Durant will earn $30 million next season and $31.5 million the following year, if he picks up his option.
By re-signing Durant, the Warriors retain their deadly “Hampton’s Five” lineup of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala. This core has led the Warriors to back-to-back champions, and are favorites to complete the “three-peat”, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since the Los Angeles Lakers from 2000-2002.
Last season, Durant averaged 26.4 PPG, 6.8 RPG, and 5.4 APG, while also serving as a solid rim protector for the Warriors. He upped the ante in the NBA Finals, averaging 28.8 PPG, 10.8 RPG, and 7.5 APG, garnering his second Finals MVP in the process.
