It’s hard to say goodbye. Hearts break. Favorite players go away. Kings fans Sunday said goodbye to one of the most loved players to ever play in Sacramento.
He wasn’t a star. He wasn’t even an everyday starter. He averaged only 7.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. But he flashed so much potential and built a love with the Kings’ fanbase that seemingly had no bounds.
Harry Giles is a special person both on and off the court. He plays with a special passion and inner fire that infects teammates and brought the Kings crowd at Golden One Center to their feet.
Sadly for Kings fans, Harry Giles is now a Portland Trail Blazer.
Carmichael Dave is a noted Sacramento morning Radio Host on the Kings’ flagship station.
Giles has reportedly signed a one-year, minimum contract with the Blazers, which is going to cause some angst among Kings fans.
When former Kings General Manager Vlade Divac declined Giles’ fourth-year option, it made Giles an unrestricted free agent. The most the Kings could offer him was $3.9 million. It was widely believed among the fanbase that surely some team would offer him a better deal. But it appears that wasn’t the case. It looks like new Kings General Manager Monte McNair decided to move on from Giles even though he flashed enormous potential when he got his chance on the court.
So goodbye, Harry. Kings fans will miss you and they will always root for you even if you’re wearing another team’s jersey. You have a special place in the hearts of all Kings fans.
Favorite players go away all the time. It’s one of the realities of sports. Sometimes, though, it is harder to say goodbye. Harry Giles will be missed by Kings fans.
