The waiver wire is starting to dwindle for options to feel even remotely excited about. We have had some stellar standouts in our previous waiver wire adds, from Rico Dowdle to Sam Darnold and Harold Fannin Jr.
For the following waiver wire adds, the player has to be owned by 60% of teams or less, and this week we go with one player at quarterback and one at each flex-position spot to add if you’re in a pinch ahead of your Week 8 matchup.
Quarterback
Joe Flacco, Bengals: It was a moment for the Bengals last Thursday in an upset win over the Steelers. It was also a moment for fantasy football owners of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
While there aren’t going to be many difference-maker quarterbacks out there currently on the waiver wire, Flacco could be one. He isn’t going to be an every-week start, but Flacco was slinging the ball all around the field last week. Flacco threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns, and in his two starts in Cincinnati has thrown 45 times or more in each game.
Running back
Isaiah Davis, Jets: Davis isn’t going to jump off the page, but could be a Tyjae Spears-like hopeful. Spears was on the IR, but just two weeks after his return, he was out-snapping and out-touching Tony Pollard in Tennessee.
Well, Breece Hall injured his ankle last week (did return), and the NFL Trade Deadline is also approaching. Hall is a name seemingly growing in trade talks. With the Jets 0-7, he may be shipped out. Davis would be a stash with potential to play a huge role in a couple of weeks (or this week if Hall sits with the ankle injury).
Wide receiver
Alec Pierce, Colts: Pierce seems to be having a growing rapport with Daniel Jones. He has scored in double figures in PPR leagues in three of the past four weeks he’s been active. Week 7 was his best week, though.
Pierce will benefit if Josh Downs misses another week with a concussion. But Pierce seems to be becoming a favorite target of Jones, even when Downs was healthy. Pierce was targeted 10 times in the Colts’ Week 7 win over the Chargers and finished with five catches for 98 yards. He is also known as a vertical, big-play threat and could be starting to truly break out in 2025.
Tight end
Theo Johnson, Giants: In Jackson Dart’s four starts with the Giants, Johnson has posted double-digit points in three of them. In Week 5, Johnson ensnared two touchdowns, and last week he had three catches for 66 yards and a touchdown against Denver. Johnson has had a couple of breakout games here and won’t be on the waiver wire long. Dart has targeted him five or more times in three of four starts, including seven in the two games highlighted above.
