The “five-year rule” in the NFL allows teams to redesign their primary uniform every five years.

Last season, we saw the Jets, Broncos, Lions, and Texans roll out something new. Whether it is a tweak or a fresh start, plenty of teams are both eligible and due for a change in 2025. With the help of Jeremy Fermin on the designs, we speculate on which teams will do it.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks had a classic jersey in their wardrobe in 2024. Their royal blue ’90s throwback with apple green accents has been a fan favorite ever since the team reintroduced the jersey in 2023 against the Browns.

The Seahawks had this look from their first season in 1976 until 2001, when they entered their pale blue era with Matt Hasselbeck, Shaun Alexander and, wait for it, Jerry Rice.

And of course, most recently, they experimented with neon green and navy blue.

This current uniform was certainly emblematic of the time and is now linked to many iconic moments for the franchise. But we think this look has run its course.

The Redesign

The Seahawks need to lean into the popularity of their throwback uniforms. We often see mediocre throwbacks heralded as great due to the blinding force of nostalgia. That is not the case here.

Seattle has a special look with the royal blue and they need not change much if they choose to go in this direction.

New England Patriots

All signs in New England point to the desire for a fresh start. With a new head coach and quarterback, all that’s left to bring the Pats into a new era is a new uniform.

Like the Seahawks, the Patriots have a clean throwback that is adored by fans. Their all-red Pat the Patriot look has been a great addition since the league introduced the multiple helmet rule.

These uniforms are probably not going anywhere, but they are best served as an alternate rather than a full-time option.

But that doesn’t mean the Pats shouldn’t look to the past for inspiration. The Drew Bledsoe-era Patriots had a sharp look that the team has teased on social media this past week.

There is a lot to unpack in this photo, but most notable are the 90s jersey and the helmet. Do they go with a new helmet logo in 2025? I know, it’s a Valentine’s Day cartoon, but if the team wants to go in a new direction, this is one way to make it definitive.

The Redesign

Drake Maye even alluded to the possibility that the Patriots might return to this look in a recent interview.

Washington Commanders

Traditionally, Washington has had great jerseys. They have some of the best colors in football. For that reason, their current uniforms cause a great deal of discomfort.

Sure, the franchise has had to deal with a complete overhaul in their rebrand and with the recent sale of the team. But now the team is good and there is no more time to waste. This is their chance to get it right.

Oddly enough, the Washington Football Team did a lot of things correctly. Aside from the name — which I liked, personally — they had great uniforms. They kept it simple and didn’t stray too far from their timeless look.

A 2025 Commanders redesign should do the same. Let the maroon and gold speak for itself. Get rid of the terrible faux-mesh numbers and overpowering Commanders watermark. Cleaning up the arm stripe is a big plus too.

The Redesign

The Commanders’ current uniforms are a tragic case of doing too much. You don’t have to overthink this one.

Sports betting is an ever-evolving industry and you can bet there will be uniform changes in 2025. Although sports betting regulations vary by location, many teams and venues seek to strengthen ties with gaming platforms, including Circus Casino, to create engaging experiences for fans.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are a team that doesn’t necessarily need a change—their uniforms are sharp and classic. However, a new look could help them move into a definitive and long overdue full rebuild post-Drew Brees.

A change in the Saints uniform would require only a few tweaks. Integrating similar jersey stripes from their throwbacks into the current design would be a great place to start. Adding the fantastic Saints logo on one side also gives a unique, modern feel without crowding the jersey.

The Redesign

The gold on black is a timeless look for the Saints franchise. The best thing the team could do in a redesign is lean into that. Keep it sleek and let the colors and logo do all the heavy lifting.

Who do you think will get new jerseys in 2025?
