Across the 2025 season, the Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver room quickly became a tense topic of conversation. Star wide receiver A.J. Brown, for example, regularly found himself in trade rumors.
When a lack of receiving production quickly formed a one-dimensional offense, pressure began to shift onto a run game that once carried the team to a Super Bowl title. Yet, after a season in which the team finished 18th in rushing, it became clear that this formula could not be replicated. Because the rushing attack was unable to carry the offense on its own, fans turned their frustrations toward a passing game that had once been a point of pride.
The offseason is now underway. General Manager Howie Roseman and Head Coach Nick Sirianni must repair a unit that finished 23rd in the NFL in receiving yards. Amid swirling trade rumors, coaching changes in effect, and a potentially shrinking contention window, the two must do all they can to revive a passing attack that was once among the league’s elite.
Hollywood Brown Joins The Other Side
March 19 marked the first Eagles’ wide receiver move of the 2026 offseason when Marquise “Hollywood” Brown signed with the team on a one-year deal worth an estimated $6.5 million. Brown, 28, occupied his recent seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. This ultimately culminated in a Super Bowl LIX loss to Philadelphia. Now, as a member of the team, he looks to put his blazing speed to good use.
In the 16 games of his 2025 campaign, Brown totaled 49 receptions for 587 yards and five touchdowns. More notably, however, he averaged 12 yards per reception. If that isn’t enough to showcase his explosive play ability, he also ran an incredible 4.27-second 40-yard dash time at Oklahoma’s 2019 Pro Day. As a deep-threat specialist, he will look to bring the quickness that Philadelphia has not seen since DeSean Jackson.
Elijah Moore Reunites With AJ Brown
Just a week after the signing of Hollywood Brown, the team continued its additions with the signing of former Buffalo Bills receiver Elijah Moore. The 26-year-old has five seasons in the NFL under his belt. But he has traveled immensely during them.
After being drafted by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2021 draft, the Ole Miss native notched just under 1,000 yards across his two seasons with the team. From there, he would be traded to the Cleveland Browns before signing with the Bills in 2025. In his short stint in Buffalo, he totaled nine catches for 112 yards. He was then cut by the team before joining the Denver Broncos’ practice squad.
What most fans will point to, however, is Moore’s relationship with A.J. Brown. During his time at Ole Miss, Moore became incredibly close with Brown in a shared wide receiver room. So much so, in fact, that Brown credits Moore with helping him work out of a mental health crisis in 2020:
“[Moore’s support] was everything,” Brown said in a 2022 interview with ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “Someone to talk to, someone I could lean on, I could depend on…before you know it, we’ll be talking for hours. Just talking about life.”
Now, the two will reunite in the City of Brotherly Love. Eagles fans, however, hope Moore’s impact will translate to greater in-game production for both him and Brown. In an offseason that will look to answer the question of A.J. Brown’s future with the team, their relationship will be a factor to keep an eye on.
Both WRs Have a Potential Immediate Impact
The arrival of two new wide receivers signals a variety of potential changes to an already transitioning Philadelphia offense. With former third option Jahan Dotson now an Atlanta Falcon, the role left behind is up for grabs.
With Brown’s blazing speed and Moore’s limited 2025 campaign, all signs point towards the job being Brown’s to lose. His ability to stretch the field is something the team missed in 2025, with the offense struggling to consistently generate explosive passing plays. Quarterback Jalen Hurts averaged just 7.1 yards per pass attempt, ranking 18th across the league. This highlights the need for a vertical threat. If he holds to form, Brown could quickly emerge as the team’s third option. Furthermore, he could play a key role in implementing the Sean Mannion offense.
A Brewing Training Camp Battle
Yet, despite Brown being the immediate favorite for the job, the Eagles’ options are not limited.
Darius Cooper and Johnny Wilson both return to the team after limited involvement in 2025, but both can carve their own mark within the offense. Cooper, for example, saw an increased role in the back half of the season, finishing with a reception in five of the team’s last seven games. Beyond the current roster, the team also holds substantial draft capital, giving them the flexibility to stick with their guns or go after a collegiate prospect. No matter the avenue, it is highly likely that there will be a battle in the Eagles’ wide receiver room for snaps in 2026.
Regardless of the route taken, Philadelphia may have to make some tough decisions. When the final rosters came to form to begin the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the Eagles entered week one with five total wide receivers on the roster. Currently, however, nine are signed. With the draft still to come, that number could climb even higher, adding more intrigue to a position group that is already a topic of conversation.
How the Eagles navigate these decisions — or choose not to — could shape the franchise for years to come.
