Kyshawn George was the last pick of the Wizards’ stacked 2024 draft, but he may already be the best player of the group.
George’s two-way skill and scalability are the stuff of dreams for teams trying to build a contender, as the perfect wing archetype.
Elite Defensive Versatility
Kyshawn George is arguably the best defender on this Wizards team. His bigger frame, compared to that of other young defenders, such as Bilal Coulibaly, allows George to thrive more against bigger and smarter players. George’s body leverage stands out, and when combined with his advanced footwork, he can use his body and size to his advantage, not letting opponents take advantage of him on drives like many other younger players would.

Expectedly, as a younger player, George is also a positive defensive playmaker. George’s fast hands can disrupt ball handlers and passing lanes, which we even saw in the Summer League. George got six steals across his two games, and he was particularly impressive in the second game.
George’s versatility on the defensive end is what will make him so special on a contender in the future. He truly can guard almost anybody, from point guards to power forwards, and that will be so useful on a team with a weaker defensive backcourt with Tre and Bub.
Connective Offensive Creator
George’s scalability on offense makes him very dangerous as a supporting piece. His three-point shooting drastically improved throughout the year, going from 27.8% in the first 41 games to 38.6% since Jan. 30. George also took a small jump in on-ball creation responsibility throughout the year and thrived in those limited opportunities.
Additionally, his passing is very encouraging. George will never be some offensive engine, but his connective passing, vision, and willingness have proven to help generate consistent good looks.
What Should We Expect?
Fans will soon get to see Kyshawn George play, as he is set to suit up for Canada in the FIBA AmeriCup. However, most are looking forward to him improving next season. At 22 years old and in a crowded forward position with Bilal Coulibaly, Cam Whitmore, Will Riley, and potential 2026 rookies, George needs to continue his momentum.
George getting an on-ball creation leap would be great, but his off-ball scoring makes him so valuable offensively.
His defense could make him elite and he must take every difficult defensive assignment and become the clear best POA defender to allow Bilal to grow offensively.
Becoming a better athlete would also be a significant improvement, as his athletic traits are one of his worst attributes.
Nonetheless, Kyshawn George’s potential is glowing, and he may become an untradeable piece very soon.
