Looks like Rajon Rondo has taken a page out of Benedict Arnold’s book. The former Celtics PG is joining forces with their bitter Hollywood rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, on a one-year, $9 million deal, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Lakers have been busy during free agency, signing LeBron James, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, and now, Rajon Rondo. Obviously, the prize of this free agent class is LeBron, but Magic Johnson and the Lakers front office are piecing together a nice supporting cast on one-year deals, clearing space up for next year to potentially sign disgruntled Spurs F Kawhi Leonard.
Rondo, 32, averaged 8.3 PPG and 8.2 APG last season for the New Orleans Pelicans. He stepped up his game during the playoffs, helping the sixth-seed Pelicans take down the third-seed Portland Trail Blazers.
Rondo is a pass-first PG and can help the development of Lakers PG Lonzo Ball, whose court vision and passing ability has shown flashes of brilliance.
Showtime is back in Los Angeles, only time will tell if it will lead them to another championship.
