LeBron Talks Sacrificing From Family To Focus On Basketball

Let’s face it, when you’re LeBron James, you have a lot of responsibilities throughout the season. Get to the finals, WIN, and maintain the same level of greatness that you have showcased throughout the decade. At times, however, it can get extremely hard to maintain a balanced lifestyle with basketball and family.

Just recently, in an episode of Road Trippin’ with RJ & Channing, James elaborated on how difficult it is for him to maintain that balance. James has had so much success on the court, that it has taken a toll on him at home. Per USATODAY, James exclaimed the following:

“I am addicted to the process. I’m addicted to the process. It’s so funny. I just told my wife the other day, I apologized to her. She was like ‘What are you apologizing for?’ I said ‘Because the journey that I’m on to want to be the greatest to ever play this game or to the point where no one ever forgets what I accomplished, I’ve at times lost the fact of how important you are to this whole thing. … I want you to understand that along this journey while I’m playing this game there will be times that I lose the fact of how important you and my three kids are—my babies are.'”

James and his wife, Savannah Brinson, met back when they were in high school. James, at the time, was getting so much publicity that ESPN would broadcast his games. The couple has since gotten married in 2013 and has three children. Their oldest, Lebron James Jr., is looking to fall into the same footsteps as his father. James Jr. has gotten the attention of many colleges and with the support of his father, seems to have a career in basketball in his future.

As mentioned earlier, James has a lot on his plate. For his career, he has played 29454 minutes for his career, meaning he spent 29454 minutes away from his family, just to chase ‘greatness.’

His wife Savannah does understand where James is coming from, and she does support her husband. Recently, in an interview with Essence Magazine, Brinson said that she supports his path to greatness. “He is very busy and I understand that, and the kids are at the age now that they get it. Being there for him is a huge part of his success.”

The sacrifices that James has made throughout his professional career has definitely been helpful. But the bond that you share with your family, will never be broken, no matter how busy you are. LeBron is living proof
