The Ravens depth has been the story of the preseason so far, as they went on to win 31-13 against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday.
For the second straight game, Baltimore’s roster pieces beyond the starters showed up and made an impact. From young playmakers on offense to emerging defenders and even special teams’ contributors, the Ravens are proving their strength goes well past the top of the depth chart.
Ravens Depth Contributors Step Up
Second-year wide receiver Devontez Walker led the way with six receptions for 61 yards. He consistently created separation and showed he can be more than just a downfield threat. Meanwhile, Dayton Wade followed with four catches for 45 yards, giving the Ravens another young talent who made the most of his chances.
On defense, Jay Higgins once again made his presence felt. He finished with a team-high six tackles and added a sack, proving his performance in the Ravens’ first preseason game was not a fluke. Corner Keyon Martin came up with a big sack himself that led to a safety. Safety Reuben Lowery came through with an interception, and added four tackles to his preseason total, further proving the depth in this secondary.

Daniel Faalele responded from a shaky performance last week by delivering steadier play at guard, helping to stabilize the entire offensive line. On the defensive line, Mike Green continued to shine by generating pressure and winning his reps, showing he can help the defense a lot this season.
Another linebacker showing promise was Teddye Buchanan, who flew to the football and showed his speed throughout the night. In the backfield, D’Ernest Johnson scored a touchdown with 61 rushing yards. Myles Gaskin added a highlight by lowering his shoulder and trucking a defender, completing a catch for a big gain in the process.

Position Groups Looking Strong
The Ravens have a lot of depth in the running back room. John Harbaugh noted that the team currently plans to carry four running backs. Derrick Henry and Justice Hill remain locks, while Keaton Mitchell and Rasheen Ali are proving in the Ravens preseason why they need to be included on the roster.
Defensively, the secondary is also deep. With the starters cemented, the backup safeties and corners that are getting playing time during the preseason provide range, toughness, and a bunch of competition, keeping the Ravens prepared for the season.
The edge position could be dangerous this year with Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh. The ceiling of the unit depends on whether Oweh improves from last year. Mike Green continues to show flashes as a rookie, while Malik Hamm has been making plays in preseason.
Depth Shaping the Ravens’ Preseason Outlook
The Ravens have shown that depth is their biggest strength this preseason. Every position group has contributed with key moments. The all-around depth makes the final roster spots extremely intriguing and important — Harbaugh has his work cut out for him.
