We’re deep into the offseason, and there’s been a whirlwind of change for the Baltimore Ravens, a franchise that lost a list of longtime players — like center Tyler Linderbaum and punter Jordan Stout — in free agency. Not only did the team lose multiple Pro Bowlers, but its tight end room also took a hit when both Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar left.

Add in the fact that the Ravens have a new head coach for the first time since 2008, after Baltimore decided to hire Jesse Minter to replace the Hall of Fame coach John Harbaugh, and it’s clear that there has been a lot of change for Baltimore fans this offseason.

But there’s still one more free agent that could get fans even more riled up for the Ravens to add.

The Ravens Need Receiving Help, Yet Again

Every year, Baltimore seems to fall just short of expectations, with the 2025 season being no exception. Injuries piled up; Lamar Jackson missed four games. Despite these challenges, the team missed the postseason by one win after rookie kicker Tyler Loop missed the game-winning field goal.

While injuries set the team back, the offense’s inconsistency ultimately did just as much to keep the team out of the postseason. Zay Flowers became the team’s most reliable weapon, hitting back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. But the production behind took a nose dive.

Flowers caught 86 passes for 1,211 receiving yards, close to triple that of the next closest pass catcher. Mark Andrews finished the 2025-26 season with 422 receiving yards. Rashod Bateman, who was signed back in 2025, was expected to be the team’s WR2, but delivered just 224 yards on just nineteen catches.

With an aging core and their Super Bowl window slowly closing, it’s clear Baltimore needs some help, and that’s where Diggs enters the chat.

Why Stefon Diggs Changes Everything

Stefon Diggs isn’t an ordinary veteran looking for one last chance to win a title. He’s one of the league’s most proven receivers, with a career that spans over 11 seasons and a total of 11,504 receiving yards, 74 touchdowns, four Pro Bowl appearances, and one All-Pro selection.

Even as he approaches his 33rd birthday, he has still proven to be an ageless wonder, putting up 1,013 receiving yards with four touchdowns after coming back from a torn ACL when he played with the Houston Texans in 2024.

While Zay Flowers has emerged as the team’s true WR1, Baltimore has yet to find someone who can complement Flowers and give Lamar another reliable receiving threat. Baltimore currently lacks a reliable No. 2 wide receiver. Diggs immediately changes things for the Ravens. His ability to win on one‑on‑one routes and create separation makes it so much harder for teams to game plan.

Having two receivers who not only excel at running routes but also at gaining yards after the catch would make the Ravens’ offense so much more potent.

Beyond the production aspect, Diggs brings something Baltimore has been lacking: leadership. Flowers is a rising star, but beyond that, the team is looking for consistency. That is the reason the team drafted Ja’Kobi Lane (USC) and Elijah Sarratt (Indiana), so they can hopefully develop reliable pass catchers from within.

With Diggs, the Ravens would have a veteran who has value both as a leader and a playmaker. He could teach the rookies what it takes to be a successful receiver. For a team in win-now mode, Diggs looks like the missing piece.

The Diggs Drama

For all the value he brings to the table, there is a reason Stefon Diggs remains unsigned. Throughout his career, Diggs has carried a reputation that wherever he goes, problems seem to find him. His exit from Minnesota was messy; he forced his way out of Buffalo and later ran into trouble with New England.

There are reasons teams are being cautious around the former All‑Pro. At this point in his career, the question is: Does the risk outweigh the talent he still has left?

Entering New England, his first controversy was when, in the offseason, he was on a boat party passing out pink powder to women. It was a bad look for the receiver, who at the time was trying to make a comeback from the torn ACL.

Things would only get worse for Diggs as later that year he was arrested and charged for assaulting his private chef. He faced heavy backlash throughout the season, but a jury found him not guilty.

Besides the drama, the financial aspect also comes into play; teams who are contending for the championship often have very little money to spend. Diggs’ recent season means the team would need to pay a pretty penny for the veteran wideout. Given the drama, it makes any team hesitant to sign an aging wide receiver whose production could drop at any moment while bringing bad press to the team.

What Would a Diggs Contract Look Like?

If he signs with Baltimore, Diggs is looking at a two-year contract, probably with the first year fully guaranteed, and a player’s option for the second.

This would be the type of signing that could take the Ravens Flock to new heights, like when the team traded a 2010 third-round pick and a fourth-round pick for Anquan Boldin, an aging star receiver who was 30 when he played for Baltimore. After making the trade, the team took three more years to win the Super Bowl, but Baltimore doesn’t make that trade, the Ravens most likely don’t win it all in 2013.

While there is always a risk in signing an aging star wide receiver, history has shown that if Baltimore wants to be a champion once again, it has to put it’s money where it’s mouth is and take the risk. Stefon Diggs has proven to be a player who could help this team now; all Baltimore needs to do is put pen to paper.
