The Texans Have Not Proven Anything Yet

The Houston Texans are sitting at 2-3 coming out of their bye week and face a tough matchup in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks (4-2).

Houston has clearly had its ups and downs in the first third of the season, but overall, the season feels empty. The team’s two wins have come against the 1-6 Tennessee Titans and 1-5 Baltimore Ravens, minus Lamar Jackson. Their losses have been to the Los Angeles Rams (5-2), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1), and Jacksonville Jaguars (4-3). That totals to wins against teams that are a combined 2-11 and losing to teams that are a combined 14-6.

On top of that, their three losses have been by a combined 13 points.

Not all has been doom and gloom for the Texans. The defense has played incredibly well, holding opponents to 12.2 points per game, blanking the Titans, and has not given up more than 20 points this season. That level of dominance defensively has been the bright spot of the season.

Hopefully, rest will allow the defense to continue its momentum as a critical stretch of the season begins.

The offense was putrid for the first three weeks of the season before turning things around against the Titans and Ravens. The offense has averaged 267 yards per game in the three losses and 385 yards per game in the two wins.

There was a change of pace in the offense in the two wins that everyone expected to see from the start. C.J. Stroud was not getting the job done, but he was far from the problem. The running game got off to a slow start as the team shuffled between Nick Chubb and Dare Ogunbowale before utilizing rookie Woody Marks more. The passing game began as the “Nico Collins Show” before the team started moving up-tempo and incorporating the duo of Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel.

The Houston Texans enter Week 7 with momentum, and momentum is important. Alas, they have yet to prove anything this season except that they are digging themselves out of a major hole by starting 0-3.

They are chasing the 2018 edition of the Texans, who made the playoffs after starting 0-3 that season. If they want to prove they are a contender in the AFC South and chase down the 6-1 Indianapolis Colts, they have to get the job done in Seattle and cannot blink.
