On Dec. 14, the Golden State Warriors made their first in-season trade acquisition of the year, bringing in veteran point guard Dennis Schröder in exchange for a package including De’Anthony Melton and three second-round picks.
However, the front office may just be getting started. As ESPN‘s Shams Charania reported, the Dubs are expected to continue actively participating in trade conversations around the league before the NBA’s mid-season deadline.
If general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. and the Warriors continue to use the league’s trade market to acquire playmakers, perhaps they should consider Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic as a potential target.
Vucevic’s Recent Play Drawing Interest Around the Association
So far this season, Vucevic has been excellent on the court for Chicago. In 28 contests, the long-time Bulls center has registered 20.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. In addition to posting career highs in several categories, Vucevic has also been efficient when shooting the ball, knocking his attempts down at a 59.2 percent clip on the year.
Vucevic’s solid start to the season has seemingly caught the eye of league front offices. According to Brett Siegel of Clutchpoints, several teams in the association, including the Warriors, Lakers and Pelicans, have shown interest in potentially acquiring the veteran big man’s services.
What Vucevic Could Bring to the Golden State Warriors
Despite starting the year with a top-five-ranked unit, the Dubs’ offense has seemingly cooled off lately. Inserting a player like Vucevic could be what the Warriors need to jump-start this unit again.
Vucevic would give the Warriors another dynamic scoring threat, as the 6-foot-10, 260-pound center displays a crafty ability to score at will inside the paint and an efficient stroke from mid-range.
The 13-year NBA veteran also forces defenses to respect his shot attempts from outside the arc, knocking them down at a career-best 46.5 percent this season. Additionally, regarding his role in the two-man game, Vucevic’s dynamic scoring and play-making abilities would make him a perfect fit within a Golden State offense with many screens and pick-and-roll actions.

For all the good Vucevic brings to a rotation, one minor flaw is his defense. Throughout his career, Vucevic has never been known as an excellent defender, and the Warriors would be aware of this before engaging in any trade conversations. That said, Golden State has been a top-ten defensive team this season, and the Dubs could be willing to take a slight hit on that side of things if it means acquiring Vucevic’s scoring abilities.
So, How Realistic Is a Potential Vucevic-Warriors Trade?
Regarding potential NBA trades, a Warriors-Bulls swap involving Vucevic is pretty plausible.
Since the beginning of the 2024-25 season, the Bulls have reportedly been shopping around several key roster pieces, including Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic. By all accounts, the Bulls want to land a top draft pick in the upcoming draft, and offloading Vucevic for some form of capital that could help them in the future would make sense.
Golden State’s acquisition of a player of Vucevic’s caliber could involve parting ways with some core depth pieces. However, if the Dubs’ front office decides to pull the trigger, they should possess the assets necessary to complete a deal like this.
While adding a player like Vucevic might not appear as the flashiest move to the casual fan, the 34-year-old could provide the Warriors’ offense with the elusive stretch-five presence they’ve been searching for.
