Brandom Ingram and The Bulls Need Each Other

The Chicago Bulls could be in a perfect position to land Brandon Ingram in the next few weeks.

Many fans will not agree with this move. Most believe that tanking the season and keeping their top 10 lottery-protected 2025 draft pick would be better in the long term.

Social media has inundated viewers with college game highlights of top prospects like Dylan Harper and Cooper Flagg. That exposure has Bulls fans salivating at the idea that the team could land either of these players.

The front office, however, isn’t comprised of fans. They have the task of elevating the roster in the shortest amount of time possible. And there’s a pathway forward that could see them accomplishing those goals while developing a future star player in Matas Buzelis.

Leveraging Lonzo Ball and Coby White‘s Salaries

The Bulls could use the combined salaries of Lonzo Ball and Coby White to facilitate a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans for Brandon Ingram.

Despite his injury history, Ball is versatile and reliable when healthy. This and his expiring deal make him a valuable trade asset.

White, on the other hand, has struggled with consistency and development. He’s expendable in the Bulls’ long-term plans.

By packaging both players and future second-round picks, the Bulls can create a compelling trade offer for Ingram, who would bring much-needed scoring and playmaking to the team.

The Rising Salary Cap and Patrick Williams‘ Contract

Due to the rising salary cap, the Bulls were eager to lock Patrick Williams into a long-term contract. Player salaries are becoming increasingly outrageous.

Williams’ contract reflects the deals made with other players in his draft class. The deal allowed the Bulls to retain a valuable asset at a reasonable cost.

However, the front office is not blind to Williams’ limitations. While he has flashed promise, his development has not been as rapid as hoped, making his contract a potential trade chip.

Flipping Williams’ Contract

With the emergence of Matas Buzelis, the Bulls have another young talent who could fill Williams’s current role.

Buzelis’ potential makes Williams’ contract more expendable. The Bulls could also use that contract to trade for Ingram, who has been undervalued by the league.

The front office understands that they must acquire proven talent to compete in the playoffs rather than relying solely on draft picks.

Targeting Brandon Ingram

Brandon Ingram represents the type of undervalued star that the Bulls have targeted in the past. After all, they helped rehabilitate DeMar DeRozan‘s value across the league.

Like DeRozan, Ingram has seen his value dip. However, his scoring ability, versatility, and experience make him an ideal complement to Zach LaVine and the newly acquired Josh Giddey.

His presence would give the Bulls a dynamic duo capable of leading the team deep into the playoffs. It would also allow their young players to settle into their roles further.

The Bulls’ front office has also done well finding valuable role players in the draft and free agency. Ayo Dosunmu, Julian Phillips, and Jalen Smith are key fixtures in the team’s future plans. Alex Caruso‘s production allowed the Bulls to acquire Giddey and reshape their offensive identity.

Fan Reactions and Social Media Buzz

Fans have been vocal about their frustrations with the current roster, particularly with Coby White and Patrick Williams.

Even Patrick Williams has grown more vocal about his shortcomings before his last few games.

The Bulls have picked a lane many aren’t paying attention to. They have filled their roster with young, talented, and relatively cheap role players.

If they stay true to form, they’ll look for their next undervalued star to help them return to the playoffs.
