There is a new yet familiar face now calling the shots for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lakers president Jeanie Buss has appointed longtime Laker Earvin Magic Johnson as LA’s President of Basketball Operations. Consequently, Buss relieved GM Mitch Kupchak and VP of Basketball Operations Jim Buss of their duties.

This move comes at a very unique time, with the trade deadline just two days away. It will be interesting to see what moves, if any, Magic will make prior to Thursday’s deadline. The Utah Jazz have reportedly shown interest in Lakers’ combo guard Lou Williams (CBS Sports), but the Lakers have not been aggressively shopping anyone quite yet.

The trade deadline commences this Thursday at 3 PM ET.
