Russell Westbrook and Thunder agree on contract extension

on

Despite losing Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors, the Thunder have found themselves in a great position with Russell Westbrook agreeing on a contract extension.  The contract is reportedly worth $85 million on a 3 year deal, with a player option for the 2018-2019 NBA season, reported by Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski.  This not only keeps OKC in the the hunt for a title in the near future, but it attracts other big time players, such as Blake Griffin.  There were earlier reports this off-season of the Thunder going after Griffin next season once he becomes a free agent.  This could be one of the main factors in Westbrook  signing the extension.

Westbrook is excited on the returning players like Steven Adams, Enes Kanter, and the newly acquired guard Victor Oladipo.  Westbrook has allegedly been working out with Oladipo in Los Angeles, which displays that they’re building chemistry.

The Thunder might not be a contender right now, but they have enough fire power to make some noise throughout the NBA, and possibly pull an upset in the playoffs.
