There is much to be excited about when it comes to the Denver Broncos this year. A powerful defense, proficient offense, and solid coaching have left fans excited for what’s to come.
However, what specifically will be different about this edition of the Broncos? Well, the Three Horsemen of Mile High might just make you scream in delight, or fear — depending on who you’re rooting for.
R.J. Harvey
One could watch just a small compilation of R.J. Harvey highlights and be thrilled. Most Broncos fans are.
Besides the intensity of decimating his college opponents, what else is encouraging about this young star? His role in the Broncos’ run-friendly attack.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen stated: ‘The running back position is a critical piece of Sean Payton‘s offense, and Harvey has the traits to play a dual-threat role for Denver. At 5-foot-8, 205 pounds, he can run through contact and handle volume as a lead runner. His lateral quickness and straight-line speed help him create even more on the ground.”
Harvey was an absolute treat to watch in college, and there is little to debate about his abilities. Quick, powerful, explosive, shifty; exactly what Denver has been lacking for quite some time.
But to pair the rookie with a seasoned veteran? Now that’s something to be afraid of.
J.K. Dobbins
A running back who’s had a tumultuous career, J.K. Dobbins needed a fresh start. In spite of a good season last year for the Chargers, Los Angeles still chose to let Dobbins go.
Going into a Sean Payton offense is the change of pace most RB’s would kill for. For a fifth-year player who’s dealt with a bevy of injuries, one could argue he hasn’t even come close to his full potential.
What better place for Dobbins to be a consistent piece of a successful season than with the Broncos — a team that has tremendous expectations this season. It’ll be a benefit to him that he won’t be the sole powerhouse of this Broncos team, sharing reps with a potent rookie. The combination of the two backs, guided by Payton and running behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, is a recipe for greatness.
Courtland Sutton
Ever since achieving his first 1,000 yard season in 2019, Sutton has only progressed in talent each year. Coming off of what many considered to be his best season yet, and receiving a contract extension, it’s no secret he is one of the deadliest weapons in the league.
In addition to his growing chemistry with Bo Nix, Sutton is still what many consider to be a perfect age for a veteran WR at 29 years old. Given his experience, consistent growth, and outstanding team reputation, the Denver Broncos have much to look forward to with their star receiver.
On top of it all, Sutton has been described by the coaching staff and players around him as a vocal leader, boosting team morale and holding his teammates accountable. He was even quoted after receiving his contract extension saying, “The contract isn’t the end all, be all… the contract was just allowing me to have that stability to say, ‘Hey you’re going to be here for the next four years, and the things that are possible are still attainable.’ I look forward to chasing those.”
If there’s anything Broncos fans want, its another chance at a Super Bowl. Sutton will be key to Denver getting that chance.
Between a hopeful rookie, a second-chance veteran, and an elite talent at WR, the Three Horsemen of Mile High have finally arrived. Will they wage war against the NFL, or their own team? Time will tell.
