Who Should the 2025 Giants Starting Quarterback Be?

Nearing the end of free agency, with Tommy DeVito as the only rostered quarterback, the Giants need an offensive general. However, they have a handful of options that can yield various results.

Here is what each quarterback can bring to the Giants and who they should ultimately choose.

Aaron Rodgers a Short-Term Solution for the Giants

Coming off one of the worst seasons of his career and being 41 years old, Rodgers is the definition of a short-term solution.

While probably being the most talented day-one starter left, he comes with a lot of baggage. The Giants have also been rumored to offer Rodgers the best contract. If he hesitates to sign after that, Rodgers may prefer to retire than sign with the Giants.

One thing is for sure: if he signed with the G-Men, Malik Nabers would put up some of the best numbers in the NFL. Garrett Wilson had great success last year, along with Rodgers’ longtime friend Davante Adams, who has a hall-of-fame resume with Rodgers’ help. With Rodgers still having a great arm and field vision, he and Brian Daboll will find offensive success.

Cam Ward a Home-Run Pick for NYG

As a first-overall talent, that’s where the Giants need to trade to.

The Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns need a quarterback, so the Giants must convince Tennessee to swap picks. Ward would be a home-run pick for Joe Schoen, pairing a franchise quarterback with Nabers. This decision will make or break Schoen and Daboll’s Giants careers.

Russell Wilson Would be a Good Choice

After stumbling to the finish line of last season, Wilson will be an affordable option. Despite his disappointing end of 2024, he is still a top-tier veteran on the market and would be a significant veteran presence for a young quarterback.

With Wilson not being the escape artist he once was, he constantly checks the ball down. Luckily for him, the Giants have an outstanding receiving back in Tyrone Tracy Jr., who would greatly help Wilson’s game.

Shedeur Sanders a Reach at No. 3?

With Sheduer being the Giants’ favorite quarterback in the draft, this is the most likely starter for next year. Shedeur has phenomenal field vision and accuracy, which the Giants haven’t had in years. Shedeur does have his issues, including an average (at best) arm and underwhelming athleticism.

Although picking him third overall would be a stretch, Shedeur shows promising traits that can make him a franchise player.

Jameis Winston is a Last Resort

Out of these five options, Winston is the closest to a backup. In seven starts last season, Winston threw for 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and had an 80.6 passer rating. Winston has succeeded in a good offensive structure, making it plausible for him this year, but still unlikely.

The Giants could sign him as a backup on a minimum deal, which would be a great move to either install a quarterback battle between Winston and another veteran or to mentor a rookie.

Who Should the Giants’ Next Quarterback Be?

Cam Ward provides the most upside out of these options.

Even though trading up would likely require it, the Giants have been in need of a franchise quarterback for over a decade. If they cannot take Ward, Russell Wilson is the next best option as a cheap, much-needed veteran presence.
