The Los Angeles Angels announced on Wednesday that they will not be retaining Kurt Suzuki as their manager for the 2027 MLB season.

The Angels Baseball Operations Consultant, John Mozeliak, said that he’s had internal conversations with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment’s leadership about the future of Angels baseball. Mozeliak said that “those conversations have shaped the decision to seek a new manager and coaching staff for the 2027 season.”

“I do not believe our record this year was a true reflection of his abilities as a manager,” Said Mozeliak.

Mozeliak went on to thank the entire coaching staff in his statement. The Angels offered Suzuki and other former staff members other positions with the Angels.

Possible Replacements?

The top name that was a possible fit going into the 2026 season was future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols. The deal reportedly fell through due to contract disputes. But with Pujols’ history with Mozeliak in the Cardinals organization, it’s more likely for his hiring.

The 2026 season alone saw five different clubs making managerial changes. Alex Cora, Rob Thomson, and Carlos Mendoza were fired from their respective clubs during the season. Joe Espada and Dan Wilson were told/told their teams of their departure at the end of the season.

Cora and Espada have both won a World Series as either a manager or coach. Thomson has World Series experience, and Wilson almost led the Seattle Mariners to their first World Series appearance.

Any of these options would bring a new set of experiences to a Halos team coming off a 100-loss season.

Beyond these four candidates, Rocco Baldelli and Gabe Kapler have also been names floating around with decent managerial experience.

It is yet unclear when the organization will make a managerial decision.
