MVP Pre-Season Rankings (Summer Edition)- Who’s is Number 2?

on

POSTED BY: DANNY THOMPSON

Major changes happened across the entire NBA this summer, but with the season 2 months away it is never too early to talk about the MVP candidates for 2016-2017.

With Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors who had the league’s reining MVP in Stephen Curry, does that affect the race for this upcoming season’s MVP race? Lets take a look at the top candidates for the NBA’s Top Individual Honor:

Winner: Russell Westbrook- Oklahoma City

Last Year: 23.5 ppg, 7.8 rpg and 10.1 apg

Reason: Barring injury or a Oklahoma tornado, Westbrook should be the early leader for this award. After losing Kevin Durant to the team that defeated them in the playoffs last year, Westbrook will use that motivation to put up one of the greatest single season’s in the league’s history. Westbrook, who signed a 3 year extension on August 4th, has every chance to lead the league in scoring and even have more triple-doubles than he did last year (He had 18 of them). By the way, he’s going for this 3rd straight All-Star Game MVP, no player has ever done that in the history of the NBA.

Rest of the Top 10:

2. LeBron James- Cleveland

3. Kwahi Leonard- San Antonio

4. Stephen Curry- Golden State

5. James Harden- Houston

6. Kevin Durant- Golden State
